The Mechanical Engineer creates detailed designs, and oversees major equipment modernization projects to meet customer requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Design and Development: Create detailed designs for mechanical components, devices, and systems using CAD software, ensuring they meet performance specifications and requirements.
- Analysis and Simulation: Analyze the performance of mechanical systems, often using simulations to identify potential issues and optimize designs before manufacturing.
- Research and Development: Explore new technologies and concepts, analyze existing designs, and develop innovative solutions for mechanical and thermal systems.
- Documentation: Prepare technical documentation, including reports, drawings, and specifications, for various stakeholders.
- Collaboration: Mechanical engineers collaborate with other engineers, designers, and other departments like manufacturing, project management, inside sales and other stakeholders.
Technical Skills:
- Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
- Experience: Three to five plus years of relevant experience in Engineering preferred.
- Technical Skills: Advanced Microsoft Office and 2D and 3D design software; Understand and utilize fundamental design practices and demonstrate experience in product design using CAD and/or three-dimensional modelling software; Understanding and experience in stress calculations and machine drive calculations, pneumatic and hydraulic components and controls, standard welding practices, bill of material structure, and revision of control environment.
Specific Tasks:
- Develop design concepts, calculations, layouts, assemblies, pneumatic schematics, ventilation layouts, and detailed drawings.
- Create associated bills of material.
- Review sales orders, customer specifications, and related documents to ensure designs meet customer requirements; attend order launch meetings.
- Prepare required forms, including partial releases, final releases, revision releases, customer adjustments, approval prints, certified prints, EQST/assembly lists, and other forms required by ISO procedures and work instructions.
- Update machine manuals in accordance with EMP orders.
- Interact with plant and field representatives to resolve design-related issues. Some travel may be required to verify EMP fit-up and requirements.
- Collaborate with Electrical Engineers on the application and operation of specific designs.
- Coordinate and interface with other departments to address solutions associated with Wheelabrator aftermarket business. This may include loading or classifying parts, providing technical assistance to sales or customers, and updating or improving obsolete designs to facilitate the completion of customer orders.
