As an Applications Engineer, you will be responsible for reviewing requests for quotation (RFQ) for clarification and definition, designing concepts to meet customer needs, and developing and implementing customer specifications. Professional experience and background:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field; or extensive equivalent work experience in foundry sand production.
- Experience Required: Relevant experience in foundry sand production and/or foundry operations.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, CRM, and knowledgeable in basic CAD software. Mechanical drawing reading and basic algebra calculation skills are a requirement.
- Macro or scripting languages and knowledge of competitive foundry equipment are a plus.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical evaluation and scope development for OEM and EMP opportunities from concept through quotation.
- Develop and maintain the integrity of project cost estimates to ensure technical accuracy and margin alignment.
- Direct and coordinate internal RFQ and costing activities across engineering and purchasing.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to align technical solutions with customer requirements and business objectives.
- Manage the full quotation process, ensuring proposals are complete, accurate, and delivered within customer-defined timelines.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison between sales team, agents, and customers, building relationships that support both near-term project wins and long-term account development.
Specific tasks:
- Initiate and manage completion of applicable project worksheets, including calculation/determine sand demand and cooler sizing requirements.
- Review customer RFQs and specifications; identify clarification needs with engineering.
- Prepare and distribute internal RFQs for costing input.
- Develop detailed cost breakdowns using calculation tools, cost books, and company systems.
- Maintain and update project calculation sheets; revise estimates as scope evolves.
- Calculate selling price per company guidelines and complete Opportunity Assessment documentation.
- Prepare proposals and formal bids.
- Meet established quoting timelines.
- Support additional engineering, sales, or business development initiatives as assigned.
KPIs:
- Support attainment of annual order intake and revenue targets for assigned accounts and opportunities.
- Achieve or exceed OEM and EMP margin targets as established in the annual operating budget.
