As a Senior Metallurgist at NoriLab, you will lead analytical and research activities focused primarily on cast materials and wear-resistant alloys. Operating remotely, you will be responsible for conducting metallurgical evaluations, writing technical reports, coordinating research projects, and driving innovations in material development. Your work will directly support strategic R&D initiatives across Norican for both the Norilab and Castalloy Waukesha.
Responsibilities
• Conduct metallurgical analyses on primarily cast components, focusing on microstructure characterization and wear behavior evaluation.
• Investigate microstructural interactions and their influence on mechanical and tribological properties.
• Develop and optimize laboratory processes to enhance the functionality and efficiency of the NoriLab.
• Working as a specialist in research projects related to alloy development and material performance improvement.
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with lab technicians, student researchers, and external partners (e.g., FH Münster).
• Support the implementation and interpretation of standardized testing methods or adjusting them to the needs of Norican (e.g., ASTM G65).
• Contribute to strategic planning and knowledge retention across brands (DISA, Simpson, Wheelabrator).
• Researching for ways to take cost out of the casting process. (as cast solutions by modified chemistry, faster less expensive heat treat solutions, auditing of the ductile process)
• Coordinating with the engineering team and melt team to establish best practice.
Qualifications:
• Degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or a related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
• Strong background in cast materials and alloy development.
• Experience with metallographic techniques, microhardness testing, and chemical analysis (e.g., OES).
• Excellent organizational and project management skills.
• Strong written communication and reporting abilities.
• Ability to work independently and remotely, with occasional travel.
Specific Tasks:
- Extract and consolidate data from various systems and file types (CSV, ERP, Excel, CRM, SharePoint etc.).

- Build and maintain Excel-based tools using advanced formulas, pivot tables, and Power Query
- Create and update Power BI dashboards and reports (or demonstrate willingness to learn).
- Validate and cross-check data to identify discrepancies or errors.
- Document data processes, logic flows, and tool usage to support knowledge transfer.
- Engage with colleagues to clarify requirements, fill in missing data, or address anomalies.
